The cult of Ra

Ra Uru Hu was the messenger of Human Design, not a messiah. He had an amazing mystical experience that led to the creation of the Human Design System, and yes, his insights were creative. But somewhere along the way, many in the Human Design community have turned him into a guru, a prophet, a sacred authority figure whose every word must be obeyed without question.
This is not just a mistake, it’s dangerous. And it’s time we talked about it.
Human Design started as a radical experiment, an invitation to question everything you thought you knew about yourself. Many people mention how Ra always spoke against being worshiped and trusted even, but this is the simplest strategy ever, i am mindblown over how easy people take the word as the truth. If he said we are here to worship him and follow him, we’d feel different about it all. It’s not even a highly complex type of manipulation, it’s the most primitve one.
You can see it everywhere. Dogmatic Teachers who quote Ra like he’s scripture, without even necesserily understanding the mechanics they’re explaining. ‘’Nodes are movement’’, ‘’motivation is for the other’’, but what does that mean?? Uhm....follow your s and a.
We have various online communities on FB where any criticism of Ra is met with hostility and accusations of “you are not living your design’’ kind of comebacks. People get kicked out of groups for asking questions. My group is probably the only one that fully allows questioning and still i get people joining and complaining, trying to redirect the goal of our group. We want to be the safe space for exploring and allowing all unique perspectives. Which really should be the whole point of this system.
Human design makes people develop fears, where you have students who are terrified of “doing it wrong” because they’ve been told that if they don’t follow the system exactly as Ra taught, they are doomed.
But here’s the truth, Ra was a flawed human being, just like the rest of us. He was bright, insightful, and yes, deeply imperfect. And his biggest gift to us was not his authority, it was the map he left behind. When you turn Ra into a prophet, you destroy your own power. Human Design becomes a religion instead of a tool. You become a follower instead of a sovereign being.
If you believe that everything Ra said is absolute truth, you stop thinking for yourself. You stop asking questions. You become a parrot, repeating teachings you don’t actually truly understand. And how is this in any way different then any other religion?
Ra talked a lot about the importance of experimenting with your design. But when he becomes a god like figure, students become terrified of making mistakes. They are afraid to trust their own experience, because it might contradict Ra’s teachings. Is this not the best example of giving our authority to somebody else? Somebody who majority of us never even met. And we trust that this being knows us better then we know ourselves.
Ra didn’t say, “Here are the rules, you must obey them.” He said, “Here is a map. Now go and see what’s true for you.” His entire teaching is about discovering your own nature, not blindly following anyone else’s authority, including his. And when you experiment with something, you can't do so with the expectation of a result. Experimentation is openness to being surprised by a result. And for some of you the correct result can truly be strategy and authority, but for others not at all, epsecially not for majority of people. This version of the story is filtered through Ra’s design, his perspective, his conceptualising, his unique way of filtering, and unless you are him, you can not possibly have the exact same understanding and experience.
If you look at the Personality Learning vertical for example *Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) You can see how we are all here to learn different things, even when we are all reading the same manual. If your understanding is entirely matching someone else’s, that’s influence, not differentiation.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re drowning in dogma, it’s time to take your power back. Human Design is not about following Ra, or me, or any other teacher. It’s about understanding yourself. And that means you need to start questioning everything you’ve been told. I never had a teacher, and i am not following any HD analysts, and while others will see this is a negative thing about me, i see it as an oppostunity to have a way clearer understanding. If someone tells you that you must do something a certain way, ask why. If their only answer is somewhere along the lines of “because Ra said so,” that’s not an answer, that’s indoctrination.
Bodygraph is a map of energy mechanics, not a moral code. It can help you understand your programing and how you filter that programing correctly for yourself, but it cannot tell you who you are. Human Design is a revolution, but only if you own it. That means letting go of the cult.. It means using this map as a guide, not a prison. It means letting your own experience be the ultimate authority. Stop worshipping Ra. Start worshipping your own truth.
If this makes you angry, good. That means it’s doing its job.
You know, the famous paradox of it all.....Here is a decision making system, but there is no choice anyways.
